Barrel couplings are used to connect the drive shaft of a gearbox to the rope drum in crane and hoisting applications. They are torsionally rigid, easy to assemble and maintain, and compensate for axial and radial shaft misalignments. Barrel couplings are designed to avoid high bending moments and compensate for misalignments, and also to absorb axial displacement.
